KING PRAWN

At the forefront of the UK Ska-Punk scene, King Prawn built a reputation as one of the most innovative and entertaining live bands on the circuit. Their infectious blend of Punk, Ragga, Ska & Hip Hop set them apart from other bands on the scene. Their unique sonic and visual cocktail with politically charged social commentary wowed crowds from Tokyo to Tromsø.

Formed in London 1993, the band spent the first decade touring extensively, building a committed fanbase across the UK, Belgium, Italy & Croatia. Their 2nd and 3rd albums ‘Fried In London’ & “Surrender To The Blender’ gained them media attention, they played live on Italian prime-time TV and won the affections of the UK rock press. The band were nominated ‘Best New British Band’ at the 1998 Kerrang! Awards and again in the 2000 Kerrang! Awards for ‘Spirit of Independence’.

With the release of their 3rd album ‘Got The Thirst’ and single ‘The Dominant View’, King Prawn played Reading & Leeds Festivals and their first shows in Japan before throwing their towels into the jaws of success with a final sell out show at London’s Forum. The decision to split at the peak of their popularity left a lasting legacy as a seminal Ska-Punk band. Band members went their separate ways with new music projects, frontman Al Rumjen relocated to Italy and performed worldwide as lead singer for
Asian Dub Foundation.

In 2013 after a 10 year hiatus and frequent pleas to return, the Prawn were reborn. Zac Chang replaced Babar Luck on bass and the live band were expanded to a 7-piece with brass section and keyboards. They returned to play Reading & Leeds festival and headlined stages at Boomtown Fair & Slam Dunk, before seeing the year out with a comeback tour and emotionally charged homecoming show at Camden Town’s Koko.

King Prawn have continued to perform and write new material, 2019 saw the release of their fifth studio album ‘The Fabulous New Sounds Of’ followed by two singles on the band’s own label. The band are currently writing and recording their sixth studio album planned for release in 2023. Festivals and shows are being booked to coincide with their 30th Anniversary next year. Vive Le Prawn! Big up the worldwide KP massive!
